The squeeze scanner ranks names by short interest, days-to-cover, and recent gap behavior. We show you exactly how to filter, sort, and prioritize the live setups.
A short squeeze occurs when heavily shorted stocks spike upward, forcing short sellers to cover — which drives the price even higher. Our scanner identifies these setups before they trigger by combining short interest data with SEC filing catalysts.
Three conditions must align for a squeeze to trigger:
The squeeze_score field (0-100) in our scanner combines multiple inputs:
| Component | Weight | What It Measures |
|---|---|---|
| Short Float % | 30% | Percentage of tradable shares held short |
| Days to Cover | 25% | Short interest / avg daily volume. Lower = more pressure |
| DTC Acceleration | 15% | Rate of change in DTC (compressing = bullish) |
| Utilization Rate | 15% | % of lendable shares currently on loan |
| Cost to Borrow | 15% | Annual fee to borrow shares for shorting. High = painful |
The most explosive moves happen when high squeeze scores coincide with catalyst filings:
| Squeeze Score | + Filing | Expected Move |
|---|---|---|
| >70 | 8-K positive | Explosive gap + continuation |
| 50-70 | Form 4 cluster | Multi-day grind higher |
| 40-60 | 13D new stake | Activist-forced revaluation |
| >80 | S-3 (bearish) | Dilution kills squeeze thesis |
Our scanner scores squeeze pressure across 1,600+ tickers daily, combined with SEC filing catalysts.
